“The ID Photo” is a CG short film crafted in the style of stop-motion animation. Presented at 10 frames per second, it captures the charm of a clay-like dog character as it prepares to pose for an ID photo—expressing personality through minimal motion, subtle anticipation, and expressive stillness.
Created primarily in Maya, the film features sculpting in ZBrush, shading and look development in Substance Painter, rendering with Redshift, and final compositing and color grading in After Effects.
Driven by a playful and humorous tone, the film explores the quiet comedy of everyday moments—how a simple photo session can become a stage for personality, awkwardness, and charm to shine through. It’s a light-hearted tribute to the small, relatable quirks that make characters (and people) feel real.
